About the role

As an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting our operations across Northern UK, partnering closely with depot, field service, sales and operational teams to drive a positive safety culture and ensure compliance across a multi‑site environment. This is a highly visible, field‑based role where you'll partner with field engineers, depot teams and operational managers across Northern UK, driving safety improvements through regular site visits, coaching and practical EHS support.

If you enjoy being out in the field rather than behind a desk, this is the role for you.

What you'll be doing
  • Partnering with operational teams to provide practical, day‑to‑day EHS advice and support across multiple depots and customer sites.
  • Supporting field engineers, depot teams and managers in identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing practical control measures.
  • Driving compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, company standards and customer requirements.
  • Conducting regular site inspections, audits and safety tours, ensuring actions are completed and improvements are embedded.
  • Promoting a proactive safety culture by coaching, influencing and engaging employees at all levels.
  • Supporting incident investigations, identifying root causes and helping implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of EHS training, toolbox talks and safety communications.
  • Supporting contractor management, including pre‑qualification, site monitoring and compliance reviews.
  • Reviewing and supporting Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for operational activities.
  • Maintaining accurate EHS records and supporting reporting through internal systems.
  • Supporting internal and external audits, certification activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
What we're looking for
  • Previous experience in a hands‑on Health & Safety role supporting field operations, working directly with field engineers, depot teams and operational managers across multiple sites within construction, engineering, utilities, plant hire or similar.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Experience working directly with operational teams, engineers and depot‑based colleagues in a practical, field‑based capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the confidence to influence people at all levels.
  • A proactive, pragmatic approach with the ability to balance compliance with operational realities.
  • Comfortable working independently while supporting a geographically dispersed business.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across Northern UK.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Why join Carrier?
