Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Organic Chemistry (Fixed term for 36 months)

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is seeking an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Roesner Research Group, working on an EPSRC funded project exploring the design, synthesis, reactivity, and biological activity of novel boron‑nitrogen heterocycles. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an ambitious research programme developing new organoboron chemistry.

• Deliver a 36‑month EPSRC project involving advanced synthetic organic chemistry focused on boron‑nitrogen heterocycles.
• Perform full compound characterisation using NMR, mass spectrometry, and other analytical techniques.
• Investigate reactivity and biological activity of new boron‑nitrogen heterocycles.
• Design and execute experiments, analyse data, and maintain detailed records.
• Write high‑impact publications, present at conferences, and contribute to new grant proposals and research directions.

You will work in a collaborative and supportive environment, with direct mentorship from the PI, opportunities for career development and the chance to publish, present internationally and supervise junior researchers.

Qualifications:

a PhD (or near completion) in Organic Chemistry or a closely related discipline, strong experience in practical synthetic organic chemistry, expertise in advanced analytical techniques (especially NMR and mass spectrometry), a track record of high‑quality research and publications, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and within a team.
