We wish to recruit a research project support officer to work across multiple marine ecology/fisheries science projects for a fixed-term 12-month period. Specifically, the post will require collaborative working with the Welsh fishing industry across two projects to support data collection, analysis and reporting. The project aims to provide evidence to inform sustainable fisheries management in Wales.

Applicants will ideally demonstrate relevant experience in fisheries science/marine ecology related projects, field or boat-based data collection, analysis of ecological data in GIS/PRIMER/R and scientific report writing.

The post holder will report to Dr Leo Clarke. For additional information please email

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • External (e.g. industry) and internal partner liaison across the two projects
  • Quantitative ecological data analysis, including multivariate analysis of marine species and community data, and reporting to deliver project outputs
  • You will need to be flexible to work unsociable hours when needed and potentially at short notice and must be able and prepared to work at sea on small vessels
