Youth Mentor/NEET Engagement Coach
Location:
Speke, Liverpool
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Contract:
Fixed-term until August 2028
Hours:
Full-time (35 hours per week)
Role Overview
We are recruiting a passionate and proactive Youth Mentor/NEET Engagement Coach to support young people at risk of becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) within the Speke area.
As a NEET Engagement Coach, you will work closely with young people, particularly those in Years 10 and 11, building trusted relationships to understand their individual aspirations, challenges and barriers. You will provide tailored coaching, mentoring and practical support to help them successfully transition into post-16 education, employment or training.
Working as part of a wider Cradle to Career programme, you will collaborate with schools, families and local partners to deliver a joined-up, place-based approach that improves outcomes and supports long-term progression.
Key Responsibilities
Young Person Engagement & Support
· Work intensively with a defined cohort of young people at risk of becoming NEET
· Build strong, trusting relationships to understand individual needs, barriers and aspirations
· Deliver one-to-one mentoring and coaching to support engagement, attendance and behaviour
· Support young people to develop clear and realistic progression plans
· Help overcome barriers including academic, social and emotional challenges
· Prepare learners for successful transition into post-16 education, training or employment
Personal Development & Progression
· Support access to enrichment, work experience and personal development opportunities
· Build confidence, motivation and independence in young people
· Promote positive behaviours and increased aspirations
· Support sustained progression into and retention within EET outcomes
Family, School & Community Engagement
· Work collaboratively with schools, families and carers to support young people
· Engage parents and carers in understanding progression pathways and opportunities
· Support strategies that improve attendance, readiness and transition outcomes
· Deliver outreach and engagement support within the community, including school holiday activity where required
Partnership & Stakeholder Working
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with:
o Schools and education providers
o Local authorities and NEET prevention teams
o Employers and training providers
· Work alongside careers services to ensure access to high-quality guidance
· Contribute to creating employer opportunities including mentoring and work experience
Monitoring, Reporting & Performance
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and intervention data
· Monitor individual progress against targets and milestones
· Track progression into and sustained participation in EET
· Produce high-quality reports demonstrating impact and outcomes
· Contribute to programme evaluation and continuous improvement
Safeguarding & Professional Practice
· Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
· Identify, record and escalate any safeguarding concerns appropriately
· Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
· Work in line with organisational policies including data protection and health & safety
Essential Criteria
· Experience working with young people at risk of becoming NEET
· Strong understanding of barriers to education, employment and training
· Experience delivering mentoring, coaching or support interventions
· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
· Ability to engage and motivate young people from diverse backgrounds
· Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a caseload
· Experience working toward targets and reporting outcomes
· Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Desirable Criteria
· Background in education, youth work, careers guidance or employability services
· Knowledge of post-16 pathways, local provision and labour market opportunities
· Experience working with schools, families and multi-agency partners
· Understanding of data tracking and impact measurement
· Awareness of local support services and progression routes
· Full UK driving licence or access to transport
