IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) 12 month Fixed Term Responsible to:
Service Lead/Operational Manager

This is a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of victim survivors. You'll be part of a supportive, values-driven team committed to safety, empowerment, and justice.

As an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA), you will provide specialist support and advocacy to victim survivors who are at high risk of serious harm or homicide from a current or former partner, or family member. Our service is inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of sex, gender identity, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, or immigration status.

You will deliver a trauma-informed, person-centred service that prioritises safety, dignity, and empowerment. Working in partnership with other agencies, you will help victim survivors navigate complex systems, reduce risk, and build pathways to long-term safety and recoveryfor themselves and their children or dependents.

The IDVA aims to support clients to improve their safety, to support their recovery and to achieve long term safety and reduce repeat victimisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver responsive, proactive support to victim survivors, ensuring their safety and that of their children or dependents.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop tailored safety plans based on individual needs and circumstances.
  • Provide crisis intervention and ongoing support to promote long-term safety and wellbeing.
  • Offer practical advice and advocacy around housing, health, finances, civil remedies, and criminal justice options.
  • Represent the voice of the victim survivor in Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) and other platforms
  • Work collaboratively with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure coordinated, effective responses to risk and need.
  • Advocate for victim survivors and their families, promoting safety and challenging perpetrator behaviour.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with service protocols and safeguarding procedures.
  • Stay informed on safeguarding legislation and local procedures for both adults and children.
  • Adapt to evolving service needs, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Experience supporting victim survivors of domestic abuse in a statutory, voluntary, or community setting.
  • Skilled in developing individualised support and safety plans and making appropriate referrals.
  • Proven ability to build effective partnerships with agencies and advocate for joint solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and the fluid nature of risk.
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, safeguarding legislation, and civil law relevant to domestic abuse.
  • Ability to manage a demanding workload, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Flexible and adaptable in response to changing circumstances and service needs.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, safe practice, and ethical service delivery.
  • Respect for diversity and a strong understanding of the barriers faced by marginalised groups.
  • Familiarity with case management systems and data recording for monitoring and evaluation.
  • To have achieved the Safe Lives IDVA qualification, or to be willing to work towards accreditation.
  • Proven record of delivering tailored training packages.
  • A sound understanding of statutory safeguarding procedures both nationally and locally.
Skills and Abilities

– Essential
  • All applicants must have been resident in the U.K for 3 years prior to applying.
  • A current full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is a requirement for this role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating an ability to confidently relate to a broad spectrum of people in a tactful and sensitive manner.
  • Good knowledge and experience with Windows based computer applications and use of databases within a working environment.
  • Experience of working within a multi-agency setting, partnership working and a clear record of building strong working relationships to work to a common goal
  • Prioritise and organise workloads within a dynamic and fast paced setting.
Conditions of Service
  • The appointment will be temporary 12 month fixed term and subject to the conditions of service of Local Solutions.
  • Salary: £31, 401.60 per annum
  • Annual Leave entitlement of 23 days. Annual leave entitlement increases with length of service, in line with organisational policy
