Probation Services Officer – Overview

Protect the public and help offenders rebuild their lives. The role offers a rewarding career path in the Probation Service.

• Assess and manage offenders on probation before and after sentence, including risk assessment and sentence implementation.
• Produce clear and accurate reports and documentation to support court decisions and case management.
• Provide support to offenders, giving practical advice on housing, employment, and other essential matters, while listening and empathising.

• Strong personal qualities – empathy, patience, resilience, organisational skills.
• Experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties is preferred.
• Excellent written communication skills; ability to produce timely reports.
• Right to work in the United Kingdom and a Civil Service compatible identity.

The position can be full‑time or part‑time (pro‑rata salary). Flexible working arrangements are available, including hybrid and part‑time options, subject to business need.
