Driver Operative (Gateways)
We are recruiting three Driver Operatives to support the Gateway Cleansing Team within the Neighbourhood & Housing Directorate. The role involves driving and operating company vehicles, including a HAKO City master 1650, to sweep highways and pedestrian footways, as well as carrying out various street cleaning duties.
Key responsibilities include driving mechanical sweeping vehicles, weed spraying, leaf clearance, cycle lane cleansing, chewing gum removal, oil stain and spill cleanup, graffiti removal, faeces and dead animal removal, low‑level street washing using jet washing equipment, and emptying street litter bins. Weekend and bank holiday working will be essential, with an additional allowance of £6,014 per annum.
Responsibilities- Drive and operate a range of company vehicles, including a HAKO City master 1650, in compliance with legislation and company policy.
- Operate mechanical sweeping vehicles as a lone worker, supporting weed spraying, leaf clearance and cycle lane cleansing.
- Assist with chewing gum removal, oil stain and spill cleanup, graffiti removal, faeces and dead animal removal, and low‑level street washing using jet washing equipment.
- Empty street litter bins as required.
- Work weekend and bank holiday shifts, receiving an additional allowance of £6,014 per annum.
- Full UK driving licence, category
B. - Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- At least 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays rising to 32 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time or working pattern). Option to purchase further days.
