About this jobWe are recruiting a full‑time driver to cover shifts for linen delivery, specimen delivery, pharmacy deliveries, patient transfers and other ad‑hoc work.
As an NHS driver you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare services by transporting patients, medical supplies, medication, specimens, and related activities.
Responsibilities- Delivering medical supplies, equipment and medications to NHS sites, clinics and patient homes.
- Perform daily vehicle checks (oil, fuel, tyre pressure, cleanliness, safety equipment) and maintain accurate records.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines, including infection control procedures.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, mileage records and incident reports.
- Assist patients with mobility issues in safely entering and exiting vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare staff, patients and families.
- Keep accurate personal timesheets and manage workload to maximise delivery efficiency.
- Problem‑solve on‑site customer enquiries and maintain standard of service under timed schedules.
- Plan daily work tasks, prioritise workload and keep relevant parties informed of changes.
- Ensure vehicle is taken to vendors for repairs, servicing and MOTs, keeping it clean and safe.
- Follow Trust policies for patient safety, infection prevention and hand hygiene.
- Undertake mandatory training and updates in infection prevention and control.
- Communicate with staff at various levels within the Trust and establish good working relationships with customers.
- Full clean UK driving licence.
- Experience driving a 3.5 tonne tail‑lift vehicle.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Professional experience dealing with staff and members of the public.
- Willingness to work additional hours to cover holidays and sickness.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other transport colleagues on ad‑hoc assignments.
- Physically fit to move patients in wheelchairs and move heavy hospital equipment.
- A friendly working environment where teamwork is highly valued.
