Position: SY26-27 Middle School Special Education Teacher (5th–8th)

WHAT

YOU’LL DO

As a member of our Middle School Academy, staff have the opportunity to shape students during one of the most pivotal stages of their academic and personal development, building the skills, confidence, and critical thinking they need to thrive in high school and beyond. With two teachers in every classroom, staff collaborates closely across content areas to ensure every scholar receives rigorous instruction, individualized support, and the meaningful relationships they need to grow as learners and leaders.

As a Middle School Special Education Teacher, you will work with students through:

Instructional Delivery & Student Support
  • Provide targeted, high-impact instruction aligned to IEP goals through push-in, pull-out, small-group instruction, and co-teaching models as needed.
  • Design and implement accommodations and modifications that preserve rigor and access to grade-level standards.
  • Partner with general education teachers to ensure students receive consistent support across settings.
IEP Development, Compliance & Progress Monitoring
  • Maintain excellence in IEP development, documentation, timelines, service minutes, and communication to ensure proactive, accurate, and timely compliance.
  • Monitor progress toward goals using structured data systems; translate data into instructional adjustments and service changes when needed.
  • Facilitate high-quality collaboration with families to ensure clarity, trust, and shared ownership of student progress.
Collaboration & Co-Teaching Model
  • Partner with grade-level teams, interventionists, and special education staff to ensure students receive coherent and aligned support across classrooms.
  • Participate in student support meetings and instructional problem-solving routines grounded in evidence and urgency.
Culture & Family Partnership
  • Build strong student relationships and contribute to an inclusive, structured environment where students feel affirmed and challenged.
  • Communicate consistently with families, providing transparency into progress, needs, and instructional priorities.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor’s Degree (in any field);
    Majors or minors in Special Education are preferred
  • Teacher Certification (lapsed certifications are okay) or enrollment in an alternative certification program (e.g., Teach For America, Capital Teaching Residency, City Teaching Alliance, etc.)
  • Experience with reviewing, writing, and implementing IEPs is preferred.
