As a part of the Mechanical R&D team for upper limb prosthetics, you will be a Test Engineer responsible for designing, building, and implementing test methodologies for both development projects and existing products in the Bionic Upper Limb portfolio of a global prosthetics company. You will play an integral part in the overall Development team, providing hands‑on support, expertise, and knowledge across all functions with a focus on developing robust and innovative testing solutions to support ongoing product development, to verify design solutions, and to better understand the long‑term capability of complex electro‑mechanical products.

Responsibilities
  • Effectively liaise with Technology Managers and Project Managers to deliver on departmental objectives and goals.
  • Develop, implement, and take ownership of testing procedures that support the development of new products and the maintenance of existing ones with minimal oversight.
  • Undertake systematic analysis of failures during testing, utilising a variety of Root Cause Analysis methods.
  • Independently design, build, qualify, and maintain test fixtures to support the performance of defined testing procedures.
  • Provide informed and accurate information on development tasks to enable successful planning.
  • Translate technical and functional design requirements into testing requirements to support the development of testing procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with Design & Development Engineers, and with Manufacturing Engineers, to identify product areas that require testing, both on a modular and full product level.
  • Maintain the equipment required for testing procedures, including the management of equipment calibration.
  • Document and present the results of testing in a structured manner so that guidance can be provided to Engineering Staff.
  • Work to medical device regulations, completing and maintaining the paperwork necessary to comply with the process, especially in the area of product verification.
  • Manage your own workload, identifying day‑to‑day priorities by assessing departmental goals and effectively communicating potential negative impacts.
Qualifications
  • HNC, HND, Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a Mechanical Test Engineer or a similar position; experience in the medical sector preferred.
  • Expertise with both mechanical and electrical testing, including demonstrated ability to design and develop test equipment and processes.
  • In‑depth knowledge and understanding of equipment required to perform mechanical and electrical testing—data acquisition and interpretation.
  • Demonstrable capability in Computer‑Aided Design, with a proven record of delivering test fixtures with basic control elements.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and prioritize work according to defined guidelines.
  • Capability to provide mechanical or electrical specifications to outside suppliers for the procurement of bespoke equipment.
  • Comfortable working with hand tools, able to plan, build and validate working systems.
  • High‑quality technical communication skills, both written and verbal, in formal and informal settings.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Solid Works.
  • Experience with software‑driven testing equipment.
  • Basic electronics knowledge.
  • Proven analytical Root Cause Analysis skills.
