OPTICAL ALIGNMENT AND TEST TECHNICIAN (LIKELY SUITABLE FOR RECENT PHYSICS / ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING GRADUATES)

Based in Livingston, Grw Talent’s client comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back to 1920. Now part of a global multinational business, their fast growing multidisciplinary scientific and Production team is looking to recruit a new team member.

Reporting to the Production Lead, the Optical Alignment and Test Technician will be responsible for testing, aligning and calibrating spectrometer products to meet defined performance specifications and ensuring the system as a finished product.

Responsibilities:

  • Alignment of fluorescent spectrometers and final stage testing.
  • Data capture for product test reports and collection of performance metrics.
  • Set up and test the complete units and subassemblies under operational conditions
  • Assist in building mechanical subassemblies when required.
  • Liaise with production and development and suggest remedies to minimise Non-Conforming Reports and product rework.
  • Work with other departments providing feedback, recommendations, and observations with the assembly of systems/assemblies when required.
  • Issue Non-Conforming Product Reports and Engineering Change Requests
  • Assist in preparing or changing existing product documentation.
  • Completion and storage of product test records in accordance with Company operating procedures
  • Interpretation of detailed technical documentation and mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, wire connections, soldering and mechanical hardware specifications.

Ideally you will have a Degree in a science-related subject with a knowledge of optical components and also have a strong attention to detail and effective verbal/written communication skills with the ability to interpret detailed technical documentation and mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, wire connections, soldering and mechanical hardware specifications. You need to be PC literate and proficient knowledge of MS Excel and Word packages.

It would also be great if you have any previous experience in a test and alignment role within scientific products, or with electronics testing and validation.
