We’re looking for an experienced, confident Registered Veterinary Nurse to step into a Wards Nursing Team Leader role at Veterinary Specialists Scotland, our state‑of‑the‑art Referral Hospital in Livingston. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to build something meaningful and help shape how an exceptional Referral Nursing service is delivered!

Why join us?

This is a role for a Nurse who wants to grow a team around them. You’ll mentor and support the development of fellow Nurses, helping to build a strong, skilled and engaged Nursing team that you can be proud of.

With new Specialists joining the team, you’ll gain exposure to a growing range of complex referral cases, supporting your continued clinical development and expanding your skillset.

We’re a busy Referral Hospital and at times, caseloads are high. But when that happens, you’re not working in isolation – the whole team pull together, united by a shared goal: delivering exceptional care to every patient.

Our site is new, meaning you’ll have access to the best equipment and facilities to support gold‑standard care. But this role goes far beyond the building – you’ll be shaping how the hospital runs, with the opportunity to influence processes, workflows and the future direction of the service.

The role

This is a role that combines hands‑on nursing with strategic leadership and team development, supporting complex and intensive care cases while also leading your team to excel.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking the lead on ward rounds, handovers, and infection control, creating a safe, organised, and high‑quality clinical environment.
  • Inspiring, mentoring, and developing nursing teams through coaching, training, CPD, and regular feedback, helping people do their best work.
  • Working closely with clinicians, nurses, and PCAs to keep patients moving smoothly through the hospital and ensure care plans are delivered effectively.
  • Getting involved in hospital projects, quality improvements, and accreditation work, contributing to how the hospital continues to grow and improve.
  • Being the key point of support for clients, championing clear, compassionate communication and helping the wider team deliver an excellent client experience.
About you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with at least 3 years’ experience in the role
  • Has previous leadership experience (formal or informal)
  • Is confident working independently and making sound clinical decisions
  • Thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
  • Is passionate about mentoring others and growing our positive team culture

In return you’ll join a supportive, forward‑thinking Referral Hospital where your expertise is valued, your voice is heard, and your impact will be lasting.

Benefits
  • £1000 Welcome bonus- for direct applicants only
  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and Birthday Leave
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Funded external CPD
  • Enhanced Equal Family Leave
  • Wellness programme including:
  • Employee assistance program
  • Eyecare voucher scheme
  • Free annual Flu jab
  • Cycle to work scheme
