Job Title: Environmental Health Officer
Hours: 28–35 hours per week
Rate: £50–£55 per hour (Inside IR35)
Location: Scotland (Hybrid – 3 days on site)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: 4 Months (with potential to extend)
I am pleased to be supporting a Scottish local authority in recruiting an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their team on an initial 4‑month contract, with scope for extension.
Role PurposeThis position is ideal for an Environmental Health professional who enjoys varied casework and wants to remain hands‑on across a diverse and scenic local authority area. The service welcomes both generalist EHOs and specialists
, including those with strengths in food safety, environmental protection, public health, or broader environmental health functions.
You will:
- Deliver statutory environmental health services in line with current legislation.
- Respond to service requests across public health and environmental protection.
- Provide expert input to licensing and planning consultations.
- Carry out health and safety interventions.
- Conduct food safety inspections (where authorised).
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
- Maintain accurate and compliant statutory records.
- Deliver statutory environmental health functions across the authority.
- Respond to complaints and service requests relating to public health and environmental protection.
- Provide professional advice on planning and licensing consultations.
- Undertake health and safety duties as required.
- Complete food hygiene inspections (if authorised).
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.
- Support the service with hybrid working, attending onsite for three days each week.
- Qualified Environmental Health Officer.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within a local authority or agency environment.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental health legislation.
- Ability to manage workload independently and effectively.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
- Ability to attend onsite 3 days per week.
- Food safety authorisation.
- Experience working within rural or remote communities.
