Overview

We are looking for a Cloud Network Engineer to join a team that is transitioning to a cloud-first operating model and building a strong in-house Network capability. The role will support the design, build, migration, and operation of a new AWS-based network environment, helping move from legacy on-prem infrastructure to a secure, scalable, and well-governed cloud and hybrid estate.

  • Daily rate contract
  • 100% remote (UK based)
  • 6-month engagement (initial)

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused position requiring experience translating on-prem network designs into cloud environments, supporting migration cutovers, and producing clear operational documentation, with alignment to PCI DSS requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design, build, validation, and handover of AWS network infrastructure including VPCs, subnets, route tables, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, NAT/Internet Gateways, Private Link, Route 53, and security controls (SGs, NACLs).
  • Contribute to end-to-end network migration from on-prem/legacy environments to cloud, including planning, dependency mapping, cutover execution, testing, and rollback strategies.
  • Operate and maintain BAU cloud networking across AWS and Azure (VPC/VNet, TGW, VPN, ELB, DNS, firewalling, peering, Express Route).
  • Support core network and office LAN/WLAN connectivity.
  • Manage hybrid connectivity, DNS, load balancing, and resilient routing to ensure high availability.
  • Maintain IP address management (IPAM) across the estate.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and traffic analysis using tools such as Cloud Watch, VPC Flow Logs, Transit Gateway Flow Logs, and enterprise monitoring solutions.
  • Produce migration runbooks, implementation plans, test documentation, and change records to support controlled releases into production.
  • Contribute to automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) for consistent network deployments.
  • Maintain documentation including network diagrams, SOPs, and operational runbooks.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS networking including VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Route 53, ELB, Private Link, Network Firewall, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Proven track record working on large-scale network migration programmes, including planning, execution, and post-migration support.
  • Solid understanding of core networking principles: routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and load balancing.
  • Experience with both AWS and Azure networking services (e.g., VNet, NSGs, Express Route, VPN Gateway).
  • Knowledge of network security and segmentation within regulated environments (PCI DSS).
  • Experience managing firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA) and IP address management.
  • Familiarity with AWS multi-account and governance frameworks (Organizations, RAM, shared services, centralised networking patterns).
  • Experience working in change-controlled (ITSM) environments with strong documentation practices.
