Maintenance Assistant

Location: Polbeth

Role Overview
The Maintenance Assistant will support the day-to-day upkeep and general maintenance of the building and facilities. This is a practical, hands-on role involving routine checks, basic repairs, general maintenance tasks and supporting the wider business.
The successful candidate does not need to be a qualified tradesperson. We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable, safety-conscious and willing to learn.

Key Responsibilities
 
* Carry out general day-to-day maintenance around the building and site.
 
* Complete basic repairs such as fixing minor leaks, replacing light bulbs, painting, minor joinery and assembling or repairing furniture.
 
* Carry out routine building and facilities checks and report any faults or concerns.
 
* Assist with planned and preventative maintenance activities.
 
* Respond to maintenance requests from employees and departments.
 
* Keep maintenance areas, tools and equipment clean, tidy and organised.
 
* Assist with moving equipment, furniture and other items when required.
 
* Support external contractors attending site and provide access to work areas where required.
 
* Identify maintenance issues and report or escalate work that requires a qualified contractor or specialist.
 
* Complete basic records of maintenance work and routine checks.
 
* Follow site Health & Safety procedures, Risk Assessments, Safe Working Procedures and Permit to Work requirements.
 
* Carry out work at height using appropriate access equipment, where trained and authorised to do so.
 
* Support general Facilities activities as required.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
 
* Some previous experience of practical maintenance, facilities work, handyman duties, keen DIY-er
 
* Comfortable carrying out basic maintenance and repair tasks.
 
* Able to use common hand and power tools safely.
 
* Good practical problem-solving skills.
 
* Reliable and able to manage day-to-day tasks.
 
* Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
 
* Willingness to learn and take direction.
 
* Basic understanding of workplace Health & Safety.
 
* Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teams, with the ability to complete basic Excel tasks.
 
* Full driving licence.
Desirable:
 
* Basic practical skills in areas such as plumbing, joinery/carpentry, decorating or general building maintenance.
 
* Previous experience working within a commercial, laboratory or industrial environment.
 
* Health & Safety training would be desirable.
 
* Full training will be provided on site-specific procedures, Risk Assessments, Permit to Work requirements and relevant Health & Safety processes.
Working Conditions
The role involves practical and physical work and will require working both indoors and outdoors.

Hours:

Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional weekend work may be required.
