We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus to join the Scooby‑Doo squad at Trusted House sitters.

In this role, you will primarily help evolve and scale our Python/Django backend services, APIs and data models, while also contributing to front‑end work using React when needed.

Our team builds the core surfaces and systems that power a global community of pet owners and sitters. You’ll work across a modern, service‑oriented architecture, collaborating with Product, Design, and other engineering squads to deliver reliable, secure, and high‑impact features.

This role is ideal for an engineer who loves backend engineering, system design, and scalability, but who can still contribute confidently across the stack when required.

• Designing, building, and maintaining backend services in Python/Django and Django REST Framework.
• Evolving our API layer and backend domain models to support new product features.
• Improving scalability, performance, caching, and reliability across core systems.
• Ensuring secure coding practices, proper authentication/authorisation flows, and data integrity.
• Driving high engineering standards in testing, observability, architecture, and documentation.

• Contributing to React front‑end surfaces and supporting full‑stack features where needed.
• Implementing UI components that integrate with backend APIs you build.
• Collaborating with design to ensure accessibility, usability, and performance.
• Helping shape front‑end architecture for reliability and consistency.

• Working closely with Product and Design to refine problems into clear technical plans.
• Leading spikes, technical discovery, and cross‑team initiatives.
• Supporting peers through pairing, code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• Advocating for engineering excellence, platform improvements, and sustainable delivery.

• 4+ years of full stack or backend engineering experience in a product‑focused environment.
• Deep expertise in Python, including production‑grade systems, testing, and optimisation.
• Solid experience with Django, Django REST Framework, or similar backend frameworks.
• Significant experience designing and evolving REST APIs and integrating with external services.
• Confident using AI‑powered engineering tools (Copilot, code review assistants, documentation helpers) to improve delivery, share knowledge, and maintain a high bar of engineering excellence.
• Proficiency with React (or equivalent modern framework) for building maintainable UI components.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, caching, and performance optimisation.
• Experience with testing, CI/CD, and observability tools (Git Hub Actions, Datadog, Sentry).
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems and lead technical decisions.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders.
