A specialized elementary school setting in New Jersey is seeking a compassionate Teacher of the Handicapped / Teacher of Students with Disabilities to support students with developmental disabilities. The school provides individualized, multidisciplinary programming focused on academic, functional, and social growth. This role partners closely with families, therapists, and school staff to design and deliver personalized instruction that supports meaningful student progress.

- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings, conferences, and interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Deliver structured, goal‑driven instruction based on IEP objectives.
- Administer and analyze formal and informal assessments to guide instruction.
- Collaborate with related service providers including speech, OT, PT, and other therapeutic supports.
- Train, supervise, and support teacher assistants, volunteers, and student teachers.
- Maintain accurate student records and submit timely progress reports.
- Implement positive behavior management strategies to support a safe learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with families and school leadership regarding student progress and concerns.
- Create engaging, organized classroom environments that support learning and independence.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
- Valid New Jersey certification as a Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of special education practices and child development.
- Experience developing and implementing individualized instructional programs.
- Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and adaptive equipment.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and families.
- Successful completion of New Jersey fingerprinting and background check.
- Master’s degree in special education or related field.
- Experience working with students with developmental disabilities.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
- Ability to support students requiring moderate physical assistance.
