The Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to establish and lead our first in-house insurance and risk management function. This is a newly created position that will be responsible for overseeing risk management strategies across our diverse property portfolio. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance on insurance coverage decisions, help evaluate business risks versus insurance requirements, and monitor various property coverages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement risk management strategies across our portfolio of approximately 300 properties
  • Provide guidance on insurance requirements for various commercial property types
  • Evaluate when insurance requirements might be waived or modified based on business considerations
  • Monitor insurance coverages and ensure compliance with lease terms
  • Advise on specialized insurance needs for different property types, including shopping centers, industrial sites, and special-use properties
  • Ensure proper coverage for property features such as solar installations
  • Stay current on insurance laws and regulations, primarily in New Jersey but also in other states where we operate
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams on all insurance and risk management matters
Location & Work Arrangement

  • Position is based in our Livingston, New Jersey office
  • Onsite work arrangement
Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; relevant certifications a plus
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in insurance or risk management, specifically related to commercial real estate
  • Deep knowledge of New Jersey insurance laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with insurance requirements for various commercial property types
  • Experience evaluating business risk versus insurance coverage
  • Ability to understand and interpret lease requirements related to insurance
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills to interface with property managers, tenants, and leadership
  • Experience in multiple states (New York, Florida, Connecticut) preferred
