Instructor - Part Time (Nursing Resource Applicant Pool)

Schoolcraft College is seeking a Part‑Time Nursing Resource Instructor to support nursing students across theory, clinical, and lab performance. The position requires 30 hours per week and is open on an ongoing basis for each semester’s faculty needs.

Job Summary

The instructor will collaborate with faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate strategies for student success, remediation, and retention. Responsibilities include academic and clinical support, resource referral, faculty liaison duties, and curriculum assessment contributions to enhance learning outcomes.

Job Duties
  • Provide academic support to nursing students, including private or small‑group remedial study skills, test‑taking strategies, concept reinforcement, time management, and written assignment edits.
  • Provide clinical and lab support to nursing students, including private or small‑group remedial sessions on dosage calculations, nursing skills, time management, priority setting, care planning, and documentation.
  • Guide students to available campus resources.
  • Interview new, re‑admitted, LPN, and RN students to assess readiness and needs and make recommendations to promote success.
  • Serve as a faculty liaison for discussions with standardized nursing testing vendors.
  • Analyze computer‑standardized nursing assessment results and provide recommendations to faculty to enhance achievement of program outcomes.
  • Maintain an appointment scheduling system, electronic documentation of each student interaction, and end‑of‑semester usage report summaries.
  • Provide faculty support in the development and planning of curriculum assessment activities.
  • Assist with planning and participation in nursing orientation activities.
  • Attend nursing department meetings and provide activity status reports.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or a bachelor’s degree in nursing plus a related master’s degree.
  • Current registered nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a nurse instructor within the last five (5) years; must have clinical teaching experience within the last three (3) years or two (2) years of clinical nursing experience within the last five (5) years.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge and experience with learning enhancement methods and instructional technologies.
  • Ability to teach critical thinking and test‑taking skills.
  • Organizational, team‑building, and leadership skills.
  • Computer and electronic medical record proficiency.

    Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

    Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Ability to present information and respond to questions from prospective and current employees and management groups.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to perform basic arithmetic with all units of measure, compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and follow written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions.
  • Physical Demands:
    The role may involve standing and walking for long periods, repetitive movements, use of hands to handle objects or tools, occasional sitting, rising to 10‑25 lbs, and visual demands for close, distance, and depth perception.
  • Noise Level: Moderate.
