General
Summary:
Under limited supervision, coordinates the daily activities of assigned staff and ensures the validity of test results. Performs specialized and/or innovative testing and analyses. Serves as a technical resource person providing guidance and direction to staff.
Required Education, Experience and Licensure:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
- Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP)
- National Certifying Agency or registered in specialty area or equivalent
Training and
Experience:
- Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Blood Bank/Transfusion Services, one or two years in a leadership role preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- A high level of organization is expected along with attention to detail and follow‑thru.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with a variety of laboratory personnel, patients and other medical professionals.
Job Knowledge:
- Leadership skills to provide guidance to a group of technical and non‑technical staff.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and positively with all levels of management, all external contacts including physicians and patients.
- Exceptional problem‑solving ability is required with an emphasis on solving system‑related problems.
- A high level of organization is expected along with an attention to detail and follow‑through.
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job including personal computers, laboratory information system, printers, faxes and telephones. Must know payroll system and complete payroll requirements daily.
