St. Mary Mercy has received numerous awards recognizing excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance and efficiency.

Under limited supervision, coordinates the daily activities of assigned staff and ensures the validity of test results. Performs specialized and/or innovative testing and analyses. Serves as a technical resource person providing guidance and direction to staff.

Required Education, Experience, and Licensure

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP)
  • National Certifying Agency or registered in specialty area or equivalent

Training and Experience

  • Minimum of four to five years of progressively more responsible experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Blood Bank/Transfusion Services, one or two years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • A high level of organization is expected along with attention to detail and follow‑thru.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with a variety of laboratory personnel, patients and other medical professionals.

Job Knowledge

  • Leadership skills to provide guidance to a group of technical and non-technical staff.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and positively with all levels of management, all external contacts including physicians and patients.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving ability is required with an emphasis on solving system‑related problems.
  • high level of organization is expected along with an attention to detail and follow‑through.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job including personal computers, laboratory information system, printers, faxes and telephones. Must know payroll system and complete payroll requirements daily.
