CNC Machine Technician - Swiss Lathe
Location: Kenwood, MI |
Salary: $70,000–$80,000
Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 2:30 PM – 12:30 AM
About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a precision‑driven manufacturing operation in Grand Rapids looking for a skilled night shift setup technician to support high‑quality production on B shift. This critical role leads and executes setups on Swiss Lathe CNC machines to ensure efficiency, accuracy and seamless production flow. You’ll thrive here if you’re a proactive, hands‑on technician who brings strong mechanical aptitude, takes pride in craftsmanship, and can keep production running at world‑class levels.
The facility features advanced equipment, including Citizen L20 and L32 models and a DMG Mori NLX.
- Perform and lead setup operations on Swiss Lathe CNC machines for B shift production.
- Troubleshoot setup issues, resolving mechanical or process challenges quickly and effectively.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and other shift leads to maintain workflow and quality.
- Ensure all setups meet safety, quality, and production standards before releasing into operation.
- Prepare tools, programs, and work holding in advance to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
- Manage and organize setup tooling, materials, and supplies.
- Support continuous improvement efforts to streamline setup processes and enhance production reliability.
- Operate machines during production runs when not actively performing setups.
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Swiss Lathe CNC machines (Citizen experience preferred).
- Excellent troubleshooting, mechanical problem‑solving, and setup optimization skills.
- Solid communication and teamwork abilities—strong shift‑to‑shift coordination is essential.
- Understanding of manufacturing safety standards and operational best practices.
- High school diploma; technical training or an associate degree preferred.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools.
- Prior experience in a similar CNC setup technician role.
