The Veterinary Assistant plays a critical support role in our hospitals, assisting veterinarians and technicians while ensuring the safety and comfort of pets, clients, and team members. This role helps maintain a productive workflow in the hospital and supports an organized, clean, and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with patient care, monitoring, and procedures as allowed by state laws
- Help maintain patient flow and support veterinarians and technicians with daily tasks
- Safely restrain pets for exams and procedures
- Set up and clean exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites
- Educate clients on preventive care and promote Optimum Wellness Plans
- Collect patient histories and maintain accurate medical records
- Provide exceptional client service and ensure pet comfort at all times
- Mentor and support new team members as needed
- Comply with all hospital safety protocols and procedures
Education & Experience
- Certificate from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred, or equivalent training and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary, animal care, or customer service role is desirable
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Action-oriented, organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, listening, and client service skills
- Comfortable working around a variety of animals
- Basic computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office and veterinary software is a plus
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
