Teacher Visually Impaired

Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of the development, learning and access needs of children and young people with vision impairments and the specialist knowledge and skills to make a meaningful and lasting impact on their lives and educational outcomes.
• Promote children's achievements and inclusion through the delivery of high-quality direct specialist assessments, teaching, support and advice and be responsible for a caseload of children and young people with vision impairments across the age range.
• Undertake specialist functional vision assessments and provide accessible written reports that include classroom implications, support strategies and outcomes.
• Conduct environmental audits of learning spaces and advise on modifications and adaptations to maximise access to information and learning.
• Advise on and support the use of specialist low vision aids, assistive technology and adapted resources such as large print, Braille, tactile materials and audio.
• Offer expert guidance on the implications of vision impairment to supplement and enhance expertise within schools.

• Qualified teacher with a minimum of 3 years' experience.
• Experience of acting in a support and advisory capacity to schools.
• Appreciation of the local needs of schools and communities.
