We're recruiting on behalf of a Primary Specialist Support Unit in Llanelli for a dedicated Welsh-Speaking ALN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This specialist provision supports pupils with severe and complex additional learning needs who are awaiting placements within specialist schools. You'll work as part of a highly skilled and supportive team, helping children access learning in a safe, structured and nurturing environment while preparing them for the next stage of their educational journey.

The Role

As a Welsh-Speaking ALN Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and specialist staff to deliver tailored support for pupils with a range of severe and complex additional learning needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Supporting pupils with personalised learning programmes.
  • Encouraging communication, confidence and independence.
  • Assisting with sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing.
  • Promoting positive behaviour using consistent, nurturing approaches.
  • Supporting pupils with personal care where required.
  • Creating a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
Experience with Additional Learning Needs

The pupils within this specialist unit may have a range of additional learning needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Complex communication needs
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Physical disabilities and complex medical needs
  • Behaviours that challenge as a result of their additional learning needs

Previous experience within an ALN or SEN setting is desirable but not essential. We're looking for individuals with patience, resilience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

This role would suit experienced ALN Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, care or support workers looking to transition into education, or graduates considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, or occupational therapy.
