Overview

The Clinical Coding Team is responsible for the extraction and translation of inpatient information using the ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 Coding Classifications. This information is essential for the effective management of the Trust and crucial to the National Tariff Payment System that underpins Trust income. Coded data is also important for clinical audit, governance and research. As part of the role, you will be expected to interact with clinicians, operational staff and manage your own workload whilst maintaining accurate clinical coding quality.

Requirements

To apply you must have at least 2 years' experience in coding using ICD 10 & OPCS classifications as well as an excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • Knowledge of Hospital Intranet

  • Ability to translate information from a variety of sources using clinical coding rules into ICD‑10 diagnoses codes and OPCS‑4.10 procedure codes
  • GCSE ‘C’ grade or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Interest to develop knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ongoing learning and development aspirations
  • Ability to deal with indirect exposure to disturbing photographs and case notes about abuse and terminally ill patients
  • Completion of the Clinical Coding Standards course
  • NCCQ National Clinical Coding Qualification
Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of other hospital databases (e.g. Data Cam)
  • GSCE Biology/Human Biology or Basic Physiology and Anatomy qualification
