Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multi/inter‑disciplinary team, providing clinical psychology and neuropsychology input within the Brainkind neurobehavioural model to service users with acquired brain injury; leading the delivery of the model through team working.
  • Consult with internal and external professionals, family members and the People We Support , engaging in relevant research and advising other professionals as appropriate.
  • Provide specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment of adults with acquired brain injury referred to Brainkind (and related services), utilising and interpreting information from tests, self‑report scales, observations and semi‑structured interviews.
  • Complete pre‑admission assessments and develop specialist, collaborative, holistic neurobehavioural formulations of individual rehabilitation needs, including SMART goals.
  • Coordinate People We Support  care as keyworker/clinical lead, in agreement with the supervisor, and be responsible for relevant data collection on work activities.
  • Formulate and implement plans of specialist psychological and/or neuropsychological intervention to support neurobehavioural rehabilitation, based on evidence‑based best practice.
  • Undertake a range of psychological therapeutic and rehabilitation interventions (individual, family, group), tailored to the individual and the context, with ongoing evaluation of outcomes.
  • Provide a specialist psychological perspective in multi/inter‑disciplinary assessment of service users and their families, contributing psychological and neuropsychological advice to formulation of therapeutic approaches and intervention plans, and overseeing implementation in collaboration with staff.
  • Conduct psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant clients, providing advice on psychological aspects of risk to the multi/inter‑disciplinary team.
  • Consult with and give specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of service users.
  • Exercise autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of own caseload.
  • Participate in regular on‑call support for the unit on a rota basis and demonstrate a duty of care to equipment and resources supplied by Brainkind.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Psychology accepted by the BPS for Graduate Basis Registration (G ) or equivalent.
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (BPS accredited) or equivalent to meet requirements to register as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Demonstrated interest in clinical neuropsychology.
  • General knowledge of acquired brain injury pathology, neuroanatomy, symptoms, characteristics, course of recovery and rehabilitation approaches (including traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular disease, strokes, encephalopathy, hypoxic brain injury, etc.).
  • Relevant experience in producing clinical reports.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a qualified clinical psychologist in a relevant clinical area.
  • Experience working within a multi/inter‑disciplinary team, supporting team processing and promoting psychological thinking within team formulations and goal setting.
