We’re looking for a passionate OHL Area Support Craftsperson to join our Overhead Lines Team! You will undertake the role to deliver site routines, statutory ESCQ regulation checks, and defect monitoring of equipment within recognised timescales. Your supplementary duties will include working on plant and equipment to National Grid standards, ensuring optimum efficiency, safety, and compliance with statutory requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring all areas equipment is tested, calibrated and replaced to support our operational teams work, along with managing the certification off equipment, working with 3rd party vendors to ensure we have resilience and plans in place across our team’s plant and equipment inspection schedules.
You will work closely with our operational teams to support operational workloads as appropriate.
This role is Peripatetic, and we encourage a hybrid working approach, although we’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you.
Locations we are recruiting in:- South East Area Covering but not limited to Bramley, Pelham and Bramford
- Proactively manage and plan workload, maintain job progress updates, and communicate effectively with project leaders or line managers to keep programmes on track.
- Apply innovative thinking to resolve-related issues, using IT systems and escalating problems when necessary.
- Promote a zero-accident culture by using risk assessments, method statements, and reporting hazards and near misses.
- Service, maintain, and manage OHL plant, lifting equipment, PPE, and earth stores in line with LOLER, PUWER, and organisational (AMBP
131) standards. - Provide logistical support for OHL teams during capital works and coordinate equipment for emergency response and resilience plans.
- Oversee statutory testing, PAT testing, tool inspections, and calibration of equipment to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Manage centralized stores, process equipment requests, maintain service records, and ensure accessibility for audits, including Legionella controls.
- Modern apprenticeship or equivalent including City & Guilds 232 and relevant NVQ’s / QCF’s
- Ability to work unsupervised on a wide range of OHL assets and equipment.
- Application of competent person roles within individual authorisation.
- A sound of National Grid’s Electricity Transmission assets; able to apply this with a practical engineering mindset to defined agendas.
- Proficient experience in coordination of Business Systems within a commercial project management arena.
- Full Driving Licence.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
- LEEA foundation and lifting equipment general.
- Lorry loader operator (ALLMI accreditation).
- Telehandler authorisation (J2).

Up to £42,835 dependent on experience.
