OverviewThe Manufacturing Engineering Internship provides the Global Operations Division with talent to meet the high demand of the division. The placement is 12 months in duration and will provide an excellent opportunity to learn and work as an essential member of the Engineering team. At Llantrisant we produce optical and analytical instruments requiring precise manufacturing processes and careful change management. You will support our production engineers and processing engineering design changes.
We work to ISO
90001 and ISO
13485, giving you the chance to understand different standards and their requirements. This role will allow you to develop your understanding of low‑volume, high‑value precision instrument manufacturing. As an electrical bias, you will deal with electrical drawings and diagrams, along with a variety of purchased electrical sub‑assemblies (e.g. relays and pre‑manufactured cables).
- Design Change Analysis: review and assess impact of design modifications on manufacturing processes; determine if the proposed design change is fit for purpose and understand reasons such as obsolescence, design improvements, and cost down.
- Change Validation: support testing and validation of design modifications in the manufacturing environment.
- Implementation Planning: develop methodical approaches for rolling out design changes to production, working closely with our SAP implementation specialist.
- Planning and Purchasing Liaison: understand the impact of engineering changes on manufacturing stocks, lead times, and manufacturing output capacity.
- Manufacturing Liaison: work directly with production teams to ensure smooth transition of modified designs.
- Process Documentation: update work instructions, SOPs, and manufacturing documentation following design changes.
- Change Management: follow the engineering change process through to completion using bespoke software.
- Currently pursuing a BEng/BSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Mechatronic Engineering.
- Good communication skills, written and oral, enabling successful interaction with team leaders, fellow engineers, and management.
- A proactive approach to problem identification and resolution.
- Good organisational skills.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and passionate about learning with a practical mindset.
- Ability to critically look at performance and engineering practices to define and improve departmental procedures.
- Strong abilities in technical drawings.
- Experience in software packages including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Travel: domestic and international travel may be required occasionally.
Travel may be required on an occasional basis, both domestically and internationally.
