Technician, Network and Video Technologies

The Technician, Network and Video Technologies performs a variety of professional technical assistance for the college’s network and phone systems; provides a variety of professional technical assistance for complex audio video/control systems and installations; helps manage day to day operations of the TV studio and videoconferencing rooms. Creates and assists in the production of audio-visual promotional materials.

• Assists the network administrator to keep critical network and phone infrastructure operating on all properties.
• Assists with design, installation, maintenance, and programming of complex audio and video control systems.
• Assists and supports the training of college personnel and students in the related areas of classroom and video technology.
• Assists and supports faculty in the classroom as technology issues arise.
• Assists with the operations of videoconferencing (Highway) labs and programs; and maintains a schedule for the rooms.
• Assists with the operations of HyFlex classrooms.
• Installs, maintains, and upgrades assigned servers, computers, network, and audio video equipment.
• Responds to and answers complex questions about networking, audio video systems, control systems, computer systems, software programs, and related equipment.
• Documents and records problems, solutions, programs and procedures.
• Assists with the installation and maintenance of the IP camera and security system.
• Assists with the maintenance of the access control system, public address system, and phone system. Helps faculty and staff with phone issues.
• Diagnoses and analyzes WAN related problems and develops and implements solutions; resolves immediate hardware and firmware issues; notifies users of system down time.
• Assists with the operation of the college’s television studio including assisting with program development, video recording, editing, digital effects, post-production, promotion and scheduling.

• Participates in professional development and required employee training.
• Serves on college committees, attend staff development and training programs and support college functions.
• Assists other technicians and departments when requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, reaching above shoulder, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens.

The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.
