Police Officer, Legal Counsel
Lockport Board of Police Commissioners (BOPC) is soliciting applications for lateral police officer positions from Illinois certified law enforcement officers.
Requirements:
- Current certification as a full time law enforcement officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
- Minimum 2 years’ full time experience within the last 3 years with an Illinois municipal, county, or state law enforcement agency.
- In good standing with current law enforcement agency employer or upon departure from such a agency within the past 3 years.
- Age range: 23 to 40 years of age.
- Residency requirement: must reside within thirty-five (35) miles of the corporate boundaries of the City of Lockport.
- Upon hiring: field training program and 18 month probationary period.
Position Information:
Initial patrol position and subsequent opportunities for assignments to federal, state, and regional agencies, and specialized functions within the Lockport Police Department, including Investigations, Major Crimes Task Force, SWAT / Negotiators (2 different teams), Mobile Field Force, Traffic Unit, DEA Task Force Officer, HSI Task Force Officer, School Resource Officer, Community Outreach, Drone Operators, and Crash Reconstruction.
Compensation:
- 2 years of experience: $88,293 (current), $91,164 (effective 1/1/2027)
- 3 years of experience: $93,099 (current), $96,125 (effective 1/1/2027)
- 4 years of experience: $97,358 (current), $100,523 (effective 1/1/2027)
- 5+ years of experience: $101,886 (current), $105,198 (effective 1/1/2027)
- Maximum salary of $120,768 after nine years of service (including transfer credit).
- Eligible for step increases yearly on anniversary date until attain top scale.
- Future annual wage increases of 3.25% on January 1, 2027.
- Insurance premiums 100% paid by the City, including the cost of premiums for your spouse & dependents (Health, Dental & Life) through 2027.
- Personal, compensatory, and vacation accrual; sick and bereavement leave:
- Vacation time available for use after the successful completion of training; officers with 5+ years of service receive three weeks immediately.
- 12 hour shifts (shifts begin at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM).
- 12 paid holidays (annually).
- Education and longevity stipends.
- Special duty stipends.
- Field Training Officer and Officer-In-Charge compensation.
- Union representation through MAP.
- City provides all uniforms and equipment at no cost to the officer.
- Optional flexible spending account.
- Optional 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
- Individually assigned squad cars (take home program for officers living in Lockport).
- Well‑equipped gym with new free weights and cardio equipment; officers allowed to work out while on duty.
- Appearance Requirements:
Tattoos permitted except for face, neck, and hands; beards allowed.
