Job Summary:
Leads the daily management and supervision of the respiratory care staff, both clinically and administratively. Performs clinical duties including patient assessment, ventilator management, diagnostic evaluation and other respiratory care as needed. Acts as an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge/expertise, and is a leader/resource to the healthcare team. Recommends/coordinates scheduling of work assignments and daily priorities of staff.

Essential Functions:
- Organizes department functions. Administers all therapies, as ordered by the physician, according to the departmental policies and procedures. Assures that all pulmonary function testing is done as accurately as possible. Assesses patients and recommends appropriate therapies/interventions. Helps educate patients in regards to their illnesses or condition and the relationship of their therapy. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of respiratory therapy practices, scope of practices, policies, procedures and techniques involved in providing comprehensive patient care.
Demonstrates understanding and proper use of all patient care equipment. - Ensures that the department has sufficient supplies and equipment to perform its assigned duties.
- Organizes and directs staffing levels, billing procedures and equipment maintenance. Prepares and updates department policies and procedures in accordance with current standards and hospital policy.
- Assists in emergency resuscitation, as required, by intubating such patients as necessary, but only if approved to do so as declared in policy statements (must be certified). Assists in maintaining appropriate amount of supplies and equipment parts, bringing to the attention of the Supervisor any devices needing repair. Implements infection control measures. Cleans and assembles equipment as necessary.
- Orients and trains new staff. Completes performance improvement for the department. Supervises substantially complex activities.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
