Elementary Dual Language Immersion Teacher [Portuguese] (PER)
Logan City School District seeks 2 Elementary Dual Language Immersion Teachers [Portuguese] in Logan, Utah.
Responsibilities- Teach elementary school students (Grades 1st-5th) in Portuguese core content areas outlined in the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Core Curriculum.
- Accommodate visitors in the classroom.
- Adapt classroom work to provide instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
- Administer developmental testing programs and subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Attend district and state-sponsored summer professional development.
- Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with English partner teacher, instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall quality of student outcomes.
- Communicate positively with others.
- Demonstrate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments for an effective instructional program.
- Develop lesson plans for second language learners.
- Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
- Instruct students to improve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Meet with parents from both classes for SEP conferences.
- Monitor students in a variety of educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participate in a variety of meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
- Participate in ongoing training and instructional coaching.
- Prepare written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators) to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Bachelor's degree in Teaching, Education, Portuguese or a closely related field. A foreign equivalent is acceptable.
- Educator license with endorsements in World Language and Dual Language Immersion issued by Utah State Board of Education (USBE).
- Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) score of Advanced-Mid or higher in both Portuguese and English administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL); or demonstrate Portuguese proficiency by receiving a post-secondary degree from an institution where Portuguese is the primary language; or demonstrate English proficiency by receiving a post-secondary degree from an institution where English is the primary language.
- Cleared a USBE-approved criminal background check.
- Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate an active Portuguese learning environment.
