Logan City School District seeks Advanced World Language Teachers [Portuguese] in Logan, Utah. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
Duties- Instruct students in target language literacy and culture using various teaching methods as set forth in the Utah Dual Language Immersion program model, including those set forth in the Utah Advanced Language Learning Bridge Program guidelines.
- Accommodates visitors in the classroom.
- Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
- Administers developmental testing programs, subject‑specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Attends district and state‑sponsored summer professional development.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
- Collaborates with English partner teacher, instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes.
- Communicates positively with others.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject‑specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective instructional program.
- Develops lesson plans for second language learners.
- Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Meets with parents from both classes for SEP conferences.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Participates in ongoing training and instructional coaching.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Teaching, Education, the Target Language of Instruction or a closely related field. A foreign equivalent is acceptable.
- License: Educator license with endorsements in World Language and Dual Language Immersion issued by Utah State Board of Education ("USBE").
- Other requirements:
- Has received an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) score of Advanced‑Mid or higher for both the Target Language of Instruction [Portuguese] and English as administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL); or demonstrates proficiency by holding a post‑secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the primary language;
or demonstrates English proficiency by holding a post‑secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where English is the primary language. - Cleared a USBE‑approved criminal background check.
- Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate an active Target Language of Instruction [Portuguese] learning environment.
- Has received an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) score of Advanced‑Mid or higher for both the Target Language of Instruction [Portuguese] and English as administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL); or demonstrates proficiency by holding a post‑secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the primary language;
