St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SMU) seeks an experienced and committed veterinary professional to serve the role of Associate Professor of Veterinary Medicine. The candidate will support SMU’s efforts to expand and maintain clinical training placements and enhance the academic experience of its veterinary students. The role is project-driven, requiring a seasoned academic and negotiator to act as liaison, advisor, and contributor to several strategic initiatives, while maintaining SMU’s high standards in academic and clinical veterinary education.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Affiliation Negotiations
  • Review contracts with current affiliated veterinary schools.
  • Continue and support negotiations to expand clinical placement sites.
Documentation & Information Management
  • Maintain an up-to-date catalog of requirements for each affiliated veterinary institution.
  • Compile and update relevant guidance for SMU students applying to clinical rotations.
  • Maintain records of student placement.
Student Support & Matching
  • Assist SMU administrators in placing students with appropriate clinical affiliates.
  • Provide consultation and insights to improve the clinical placement process.
Communication & Travel
  • Travel to SMU’s campus in Grand Cayman to meet with students and faculty.
  • Offer real-time updates and hold discussions with students on clinical placement matters.
  • Liaise with schools to monitor student performance.
Instruction & Lectures
  • When requested, deliver lectures to students on topics relevant to clinical veterinary practice, professional development, or the veterinary industry.
Additional Project Support
  • Undertake other related projects or initiatives reasonably assigned by SMU leadership within the contract’s scope.
  • Build distributive model program.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree required.
  • Prior teaching or academic leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating academic or institutional partnerships.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. veterinary education system and clinical training standards.
  • Ability to work independently as a contractor with a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
Contractual Terms
  • Compensation:
    Negotiable.
  • Independent Contractor Status:
    This role is not an employment position; the consultant will operate independently and is responsible for all taxes and social contributions.
  • Reimbursement:
    Pre-approved, necessary business expenses related to the engagement will be reimbursed with proper documentation.
Non-Compete and Confidentiality
  • The successful candidate agrees to maintain confidentiality of all SMU-related information and refrain from competing with SMU or soliciting its affiliates during and for one year following the contract term.
