Overview
Utah State University’s Office of Data and Analytics is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Data Analyst with 5+ years of experience to join our growing team. This senior level role serves as the lead analyst for state, federal, and external reporting, ensuring the accurate and timely submission of institutional data. In addition, the analyst will support ad-hoc and operational reporting needs, with an emphasis on front-end analytics, dashboard creation, and data interpretation to support institutional decision-making.
The analyst will work closely with data engineering and data quality teams but will not be responsible for back-end development or data remediation.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, is passionate about turning data into actionable insights, and has experience working within modern data analytics platforms. This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.
Responsibilities- 60% of the time
- Lead and support the preparation, validation, and submission of accurate, timely institutional data to state (USHE), federal, and external agencies (e.g., IPEDS, US News, Common Data Set, etc.).
- Ensure reporting compliance with state and federal definitions, timelines, and documentation requirements.
- Support institutional ad-hoc and recurring internal reporting requests, partnering with other analysts on the team to ensure consistency and quality.
- 30% of the time
- Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Translate complex data sets into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders across academic and administrative units.
- Document analytical processes, data sources, and report logic to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- 10% of the time
- Collaborate with data engineers to ensure access to structured, modeled, and high-quality data.
- Contribute to metadata enrichment by providing descriptive and operational context for published reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Business Intelligence, or a related discipline (work equivalency accepted)
- 5+ years of professional experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role.
- Demonstrated proficiency in modern analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
- Strong SQL skills and experience querying structured data from relational databases.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets in a structured analytics environment.
- Familiarity with data governance principles, especially around metadata, data quality, and access controls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or public sector analytics.
- Previous experience as IPEDS Keyholder
- Familiarity with Snowflake, DBT, or similar cloud-based data platforms.
- Understanding of role-, attribute-, and purpose-based access models.
- Familiarity with higher education data and reporting processes.
- Exposure to DAMA-DMBOK or similar data management frameworks.
- Experience contributing to AI-readiness initiatives through structured data and metadata practices.
