Postdoctoral Fellow

Overview

The Department of Geosciences at Utah State University (USU) seeks a full‑time Postdoctoral Fellow I to work in Dr. Srisharan Shreedharan’s Rock Deformation and Earthquake Mechanics group and the broader Earthquake Science Group. The successful candidate will develop new research directions and complement ongoing projects on subduction megathrust earthquakes, active fault ruptures, and fundamental processes in earthquake mechanics. Applications will be reviewed beginning 15 November 2025 and the position will remain open until filled.

• Develop and conduct collaborative research projects.
• Utilize and enhance experimental facilities in the USU rock deformation lab.
• Engage in formal and informal mentoring of graduate and undergraduate researchers in the RDEM group and Earthquake Science group.
• Present research results at scientific meetings and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Pursue external funding opportunities.

• PhD in Earth sciences or related field with experience in experimental rock deformation and/or earthquake cycle modeling.
• Expertise with high‑pressure rock deformation equipment and troubleshooting/maintenance skills.
• Experience or willingness to learn machine learning and numerical modeling in the context of earthquake‑related deformation.
• A track record of peer‑reviewed publications, mentoring students, and proposal writing.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
