Shelter Assistant

The Shelter Assistant supports the daily operation, organization, and readiness of CAPSA's Emergency Shelter. This position assists with shelter logistics, inventory management, facility upkeep, documentation, and day-to-day operational needs to help ensure the shelter remains safe, organized, and functional.

Core Responsibilities

The Shelter Assistant supports the daily flow of shelter operations by helping maintain shelter systems, monitoring operational needs, and ensuring established procedures and safety expectations are followed.

Responsibilities include maintaining inventory of food, bedding, household supplies, and shelter resources; restocking essential items; preparing rooms for new arrivals; maintaining organized common areas and storage spaces; and coordinating facility concerns with the Shelter Director and Facilities Director.

The Shelter Assistant also supports shelter meetings, completes required documentation and reporting, and communicates operational concerns and supply needs as they arise.

This is not a desk-based position. The role requires regular movement throughout the facility, physical tasks, and active involvement in daily shelter operations.

This role is a strong fit for someone who:

  • Is dependable and follows through on responsibilities
  • Maintains organized systems and pays attention to details
  • Is comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Is willing to perform both administrative and hands-on operational tasks

Experience in shelter services, residential programs, hospitality, human services, or similar environments is preferred. A degree is valued but not required.

This role will work between 20 and 25 hours weekly.
