Job Summary:The Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS), under general supervision, is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, result review, and reporting of results. Each CLS performs only those tests for which they are authorized and have demonstrated the required skill, based on their education, training, and technical abilities. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:Bachelor's Degree in the life sciences or an equivalent field of study is required. Two years of experience working as a clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) in a complex medical laboratory is preferred.
Knowledge andSkills:
- Knowledge of medical lab standard operating procedures, software, and equipment.
- Ability to perform complex clinical lab tests, interpret, and analyze data to determine clinical significance.
- Proficient in using and maintaining specialized lab equipment.
- Strong logical reasoning, dexterity, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic office and lab equipment.
- Ability to relate positively and professionally with others, work under pressure, and follow policies.
- Leadership, supervision, teaching, and collaboration skills.
- Critical thinking, organization, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to distinguish colors, smells, and temperature variances as necessary for patient care.
- Good hearing and visual acuity for reading and communication.
Certifications:
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist MTA license is required. For Histocompatibility, a California Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist MTR license is acceptable. For Clinical Cytogenetics, a California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist (CCGS) MTO license is required.
