Clinical Specialist Resident

Job Summary

The Clinical Specialist Resident assesses, plans, implements prescribed physical therapy treatments and supervises individual patient care. Functions as a member of the Rehabilitation team in providing quality services autonomously in a Hospital setting. Assists patients to prevent disability and aims toward the promotion of maximal patient and caregiver participation and responsibility for the recovery program following disease, injury, surgery or loss of a body part.

Provides care according to Physical Therapy, Medical Center policies and procedures and the application of treatment techniques in accordance with discipline specific designated practice act. Is responsible for providing in‑patients services under physician's orders. Fosters a constructive and supportive approach to department operations. Promotes professional, collegial relationships. Understands economic constraints and practices are designed to conserve resources. Supervises Physical Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Aide, and Rehabilitation Technicians when indicated.

Performs other duties as needed.

Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy required. Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy required if graduated after 2007 from an accredited educational program. No experience required.

Fluent in written and verbal English. Ability to speak clearly to gather information, hear on phone and in person. Ability to independently operate required equipment, assessment tools, copy machine, fax machine, answer telephone. Basic computer skills, familiarity with Windows Operating Systems preferred. Good communication skills with team members, patients and caregivers, physicians and general public. Cooperates with management and other associates in achieving organizational and department goals.

Demonstrates empathy, warmth, responsibility, initiative, tact, objectivity, flexibility and creativity. Interacts professionally and appropriately with others. Follows verbal and/or written instructions with minimum supervision. Quick thinking. Accepts and integrates clinical and administrative feedback and guidance. Ability to calculate, manipulate, interpret and analyze numbers. Assesses, evaluates, synthesizes accumulated facts and figures to determine the correct action/intervention. Good near and far vision (20/40) to read (with or without corrective lenses) to observe patients and distinguish colors. Smell to detect unsafe odors.

Adequate hearing to obtain vital assessments and receive communications. Intact sensation so as to "touch" to treat patients, troubleshoot equipment and feel temperature. Verbal skills to clearly communicate.

Currently licensed by California Board of Physical Therapy. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
