Com Ed - Testing and Commissioning Engineering Tech (Chicagoland)
Exelon is leading the energy transformation. Com Ed is part of Exelon and is seeking a Testing and Commissioning engineer for the Chicagoland area. This role involves field engineering activities related to protection and control systems in substations, including commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
OverviewPrimary purpose:
Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering force that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside Com Ed substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering.
Conduct field testing and commissioning activities for installation of new equipment; troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on existing equipment. Create commissioning plans, write livening procedures, create and run test plans, and analyze test results against expected values. Troubleshoot and perform field investigations for malfunctioning power equipment, system events and protective relaying misoperations. Support corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance; perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA.
May require extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or emergencies.
Conduct Corrective Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance, and project installation testing activities on power equipment.
Minimum Qualifications- A bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 0-3 years of technical experience, an associate’s degree and 2-5 years of technical experience, or 5-7 years of technical experience or relevant education, if non-degreed or a non-technical degree.
- Successful completion of the TECH Test. (Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement.)
- Good knowledge of regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices for maintenance, testing, installation or service in a specific discipline.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics and use basic test instruments
- Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Requires frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory
- Available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day)
- Relevant education/experience includes military roles, project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility-related experience as deemed relevant.

- Annual salary varies: $78,400/Yr. – $107,800/Yr.
