Mechanical Design Engineer
- Elmhurst, IL
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in mechanical design, particularly within the switch gear manufacturing industry. You will play a crucial role in developing custom solutions for a wide range of industries, transforming ideas from concept to design to production.
Responsibilities- Design and develop mechanical layouts and assemblies for switch gear, switchboards, and related systems.
- Create and revise detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk or similar 3D CAD software and AutoCAD 2D.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical integration of components.
- Provide hands‑on factory floor support to resolve design, fit, or assembly issues during production.
- Participate in R&D projects, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Troubleshoot design and fabrication challenges with strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Maintain accurate documentation and revision control for all design files and drawings.
- Manage time effectively to meet project schedules and deadlines for customer approval drawings, BOM release, and production support.
- Communicate effectively across departments, supporting smooth project execution and timely delivery.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with a switch gear manufacturer.
- At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor or equivalent, and AutoCAD 2D.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lombard, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 – $32.00/hr.
