Position is full-time with full benefits and will have summers off. Starts out between $20.50 - $27.00 per hour. This Itinerant position works in the Lompoc area.

Teachers work in partnership with the team teacher to develop weekly lesson plans for preschool children, develop and maintain a safe and positive classroom climate, and create an intentional learning environment; screen and assess each child using appropriate screening/assessment tools; individualize the educational plans for each child based on ongoing developmental assessments. Engage parents of various cultural backgrounds in their Child’s education.

Acts as the “second in command” of site operations when the Site Supervisor is off site, as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain 100% supervision of all children, by sight and sound at all times.
  • Plan high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences with the team teacher.
  • Carry out a bilingual, multicultural, anti-bias curriculum designed to meet children’s developmental needs within program guidelines.
  • Develop positive relationships with each child and parent.
  • Maintain an indoor and outdoor classroom environment consistent with Head Start/Child Development, Licensing and Agency standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information of enrolled families.
  • Assist children with self‑care needs such as tooth brushing, diapering, toileting, hand washing and wiping noses.
  • Maintain a physically safe environment and clean well‑organized equipment and learning materials indoors and out.
  • Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings and curriculum planning meetings.
  • Plan monthly/weekly curriculum with team teacher that scaffolds children’s development.
  • Work regularly with the team teacher to plan and evaluate individualized curriculum and behavior plans if applicable.
  • Be responsible for large group instruction three times a week and a small group (primary language) daily.
  • Plan and carry out transition activities for children entering or leaving the class/center.
  • Maintain narrative records on each child related to their development.
  • Complete required paper and electronic records in a timely manner.
  • Assume responsibility for maintenance of required assessments and screenings.
  • Attend IEP (Individual Education Plan) meetings for special needs children with consultants, school district personnel and parents as required.
  • Attend parent meetings upon request.
  • Provide daily ongoing communication with parents regarding children’s activities, development, and special needs.
  • Make at least 2 home visits, and two parent conferences with each assigned family's child annually. Make special efforts to include fathers.
  • Participate with supervisors and managers in the evaluation and ongoing improvement of the program’s effectiveness.
  • Carry out responsibilities of staff supervision, licensing requirements and overall center operations when the Site Supervisor is away from the center.
  • Consistently use positive child guidance methods.
  • Be available for pre‑arranged evening or weekend home visits, meetings, or special events to meet the needs of working families.
  • Be aware of all center’s children with food allergies, and ensure they receive doctor‑recommended substitutions.
  • Be sensitive to children with special needs.
  • Function as a positive team member. Communicate effectively with families and co‑workers.
  • Perform other comparable related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability Required (Teacher II)
