Project Overview

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary

The Mechanical Superintendent is assigned to the field construction organization in a supervisory capacity. Responsible for supervising and directing operations within the Mechanical and Piping discipline. Supervises and directs craft and subcontract activities, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance comply with specifications and within schedule and budget. Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions.

Major Responsibilities

• Responsible for field construction operations within assigned discipline or area: safety, quality, and performance. Safely directs assigned construction work in accordance with Bechtel’s safety program.
• Determines manual staffing requirements. Coordinates established area operational plans. Schedules work to be performed, and reviews work accomplished by each craft. Monitors work activities and ensures the quality of work performed.
• Ensures the most current design document and vendor drawing is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
• Approves craft time records using established automated tools.
• Prepares and schedules construction methods and procedures. Participates in constructability reviews and execution plans.
• Supervises and directs subordinate personnel and craftsmen in construction activities within assigned area.
• Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, equipment forecasts, and expenditures forecast.
• Monitors tool usage on the site. Prepares Field Material Requisition s for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.
• Monitors the activities of subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
• Responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned operations.
• Coordinates activities with other disciplines or areas, and clients' resident representatives as instructed by construction management.
• Performs employee reviews and identifies Training and Development opportunities for subordinate personnel.
• Assesses needs and identifies craft training requirements.
