The RoleReporting to the Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller will take ownership of the full accounting cycle, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across financial operations. Leading a small team, this role will be responsible for general ledger integrity, month- and year-end closing, internal controls, and financial reporting, while working closely with operations and senior management to support data-driven decisions.
The successful candidate will also play a key role in standardizing processes, supporting system improvements, and contributing to the organization’s budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting frameworks. This position is ideal for a hands‑on, detail‑oriented professional who thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and is motivated by both operational involvement and strategic impact.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, and payroll.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports for review by leadership.
- Collaborate with operations to analyze production costs, inventory valuation, and margin performance.
- Drive improvements in internal controls, accounting policies, and process efficiencies.
- Support budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with management.
- Coordinate annual audit and tax filing activities with external partners.
- Participate in ongoing ERP enhancement and reporting optimization projects.
- Mentor and develop team members to ensure effective performance and career progression.
- CPA designation or close to completion of CPA
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting and/or FP&A experience
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP; exposure to IFRS would be a significant asset
- Experience in Manufacturing/Food/CPG or other Industrial environments (solid understanding of cost accounting principles, including standard costing and variance analysis)
- Extreme proficiency with ERPs and Advanced Excel skills. System implementation experience would be an advantage
- Exceptional ability to analyze, communicate effectively, and solve complex problems
- Demonstrated success in developing team talent & building strong partnerships across organizational functions
- High integrity, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, hands‑on setting
