The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry provides outstanding education within a research intensive, distributed learning environment where tomorrow's physicians, dentists, health researchers and scholars learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest faculty on the Western University campus and employs over 2,000 part-time and full-time faculty and over 1,500 staff.
Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) is one of nine programs within the Education Portfolio in the Dean's Office at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (Schulich). Within a distributed medical education environment, the PGME Program is responsible for supporting 59 specialty and sub-specialty programs within Schulich. These programs run from 2-7 years leading to full certification from either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
ResponsibilitiesThe Program Coordinator, PGME supports Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) residency programs by promoting effective program administration, operational consistency, and compliance with institutional and accreditation requirements. Working collaboratively with the Manager, PGME, the Program Evaluation and Project Specialist, Program Directors, and Program Administrators, the role coordinates onboarding and orientation, provides operational guidance and training, develops best practice resources, and facilitates professional development opportunities to strengthen administrative capacity across residency programs.
The Program Coordinator, PGME contributes to continuous quality improvement by developing and promoting consistent guidelines, procedures, and operational resources; analyzing and reporting program data to support informed decision-making; and coordinating activities that support PGME Office accreditation readiness. Through these responsibilities, the role fosters collaboration, consistency, and operational excellence across the PGME community.
Education:
- 3 year University degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. Business Administration, Health Administration, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field)
Experience:
- 4 years of progressively responsible experience in academic administration, program coordination, or operational support within a medical education environment (e.g., Postgraduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, Continuing Professional Development) or a comparable post-secondary or healthcare setting
- Experience supporting residency programs, accreditation, or learner administration within a Postgraduate Medical Education environment is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of RCPSC and CFPC accreditation standards with the ability to follow related policies and procedures
- Ability to provide solutions by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Facilitation and discussion-building skills with the ability to host large meetings (35+ participants) in person and via Zoom
- Ability to provide training and guidance to employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the team
- Proven ability to build consensus and maintain positive relationships with work colleagues
- Ability to synthesize information to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation, standard operating procedures, training materials, and reports
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience with the ability to provide training to others
- Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
- Ability to apply active listening to hear and understand the complete message being communicated
- Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion
