Mechatronics Engineering Intern
Job Description
This is a 1‑year fixed term Mechatronics Engineering (Co‑op) position. As a member of the Engineering and Products team, you will report to the Manager, Engineering and Products and collaborate with talented engineers and software developers. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams—including product management, operations, and customer support—to design, develop, and deliver industry‑leading transit electronics solutions that meet evolving customer needs.
Your role will involve designing, assembling, and testing complex engineering solutions that combine mechanical, electrical, and software skill sets for both customer products and internal systems.
- Enrolled in an Engineering or Science degree program
- Knowledge of mechanical systems design, electrical systems design, and programming
- Basic understanding of pneumatic systems (valves, solenoids, cylinders, fittings, etc.)
- Basic experience with PLC, Python, VB, C, C++, and SQL programming
- Experience with Solid Works and 3D printing
- Basic experience with PCB design and troubleshooting
- Ability to interact effectively with peers, internal stakeholders, vendors, and service providers
- Effective two‑way communication skills, both verbal and written
- Design, troubleshoot, and maintain mechatronic systems
- Use systematic approaches to create processes and documents for troubleshooting electro‑mechanical components for Automated Test Equipment
- Program systems in various PLC languages, Python, VB, C, C++, and SQL
- Perform all aspects of technical work, ensuring engineering quality and compliance with design criteria and specifications
- Review technical work and contract requirements
- Determine electrical and instrumentation requirements for new projects
- Recommend technical direction for the application of new equipment, upgrade of existing equipment, and support of existing systems
The role may require occasional travel to customer sites, including standing, observing small writing and labels, climbing, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
