Mechanical Engineer
This role is to support a complex industrial project located in St. Thomas during construction which is being delivered through a Design-Build contract. The role will require 4 days a week in the multi-discipline office located at the construction site for a minimum of 18 consecutive months. From this location the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for completing the field reviews on the project and become the primary contact for all mechanical inquiries from the GC (our client), the Trade Partner and Owner.
The position requires effective collaboration with colleagues, clients, Owner and external agencies.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning and conducting assignments with a high level of specialization and autonomy. The intent is to have this individual service our industrial and institutional projects in the London area from Sarnia in the North to Windsor in the South. This project provides an opportunity to significantly grow our market presence in the London area of South-West Ontario and to build a team to support the execution of these projects which results from growth in this geographic market.
This role is open to candidates currently residing in or interested in working from the London or St. Thomas area.
What You Will Do- Plan and conduct complex engineering assignments with minimal supervision, applying extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering and its impact on other disciplines, as well as National and Provincial Building Codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, FM Global and other relevant codes and standards.
- Modify established guidelines and devise new approaches to meet project requirements. Apply existing criteria in innovative ways and draw conclusions from comparative situations.
- Solve unique design and engineering issues through innovative approaches or criteria application.
- Coordinate complex tasks, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate the work of engineers and designers.
- Manage mid‑sized to large projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and performance objectives for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems in various projects.
- Prepare field review reports, recommend design changes, estimate costs, and recommend payments for completed work.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, owners, and external agencies. Those agencies are anticipated to include:
- Process Engineers
- Contractors
- Authorities having jurisdiction
- Discuss design problems, explain design features and specifications.
- Establish and maintain client contacts. Develop those contacts into client relationships that lead to repeat work and organic business growth.
- Communicate with clients to discuss project progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Mentor and support the technical and professional development of junior staff assigned to projects. As client demand increases, manage a team of up to 8 staff.
- Assist with projects as assigned by supervisors to support the overall success of the team and company objectives. This assistance is anticipated to include delegation of tasks to those junior staff assigned in addition to the execution of tasks themselves.
