The Alexandra Marine & General Hospital in Goderich isseeking a part-time permanent Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) to jointheir dedicated lab team.

The successful candidate will have the option to be scheduled up to full - time hours on a temporary basis,subject to departmental requirements and coverage needs, if desired.

About AMGH

The Laboratory at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital(AMGH) provides Lab services to Inpatients and Emergency clients 24 hours aday, seven days a week. We are a proud partner of the Inter Hospital Laboratory Partnership(IHLP).

Our Laboratory provides the following services:

  • C ore Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Immunohematology (Blood Bank) testing
  • Infant Hearing Screening services for newborns
  • Microbiology (performed at Stratford General Hospital)
  • Pathology and Cytology (performed at Stratford General Hospital)
  • Point of Care Testing Coordination and Management
  • S pecimen Collection

Lab services for pre-op, AMGH hospital clinics, and pre-arranged outpatient clients are provided Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Qualifications:
  • General MLT (CSMLS)
  • Current active registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • One year of technical experience is preferred. New graduates encouraged to apply
Required Skills:
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, on call, and statutory holidays
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and changing priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
  • Able to maintain an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, hospital staff and the public.
  • Able to perform phlebotomy and capillary collections on both adults and children.
  • Computer literate and with demonstrated knowledge in Microsoft Office applications and Hospital/Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Customer focused and track record of positive patient relations
  • Demonstrate knowledge and sound judgement as it pertains to patient and staff safety.
  • Demonstrated interest in lifelong learning.
  • Keyboarding and data entry skills
  • Perform duties in blood bank, chemistry, haematology, coagulation, urinalysis and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform quality control preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Professional demeanour and excellent attendance are required
  • Required to troubleshoot equipment when necessary
  • Some lifting required, less than 20 kg
  • Well organized
