About

The Role

The Health Promoter advances community well-being by applying expertise in health promotion within a public health context. Aligned with the Ontario Public Health Standards, the Health Promoter leads and implements evidence-informed strategies—Education, Capacity and Skill Building, Community and Partner Mobilization, and Social Marketing—while supporting Population Health Assessments and Healthy Public Policy. The role requires skills in population health assessment, program planning and evaluation, effective communication, and cross‑sector collaboration, and promotes inclusive, culturally safe practices to address health inequities and social determinants of health.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Education, Skill, and Capacity Building
  • Design and deliver interventions that increase knowledge, build skills, and promote positive behaviour change related to public health topics.
  • Tailor educational activities to the specific needs of target populations, ensuring relevance, accessibility, and cultural responsiveness across diverse settings.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, community events, and hands‑on learning opportunities that empower individuals and groups to make informed decisions about their health.
  • Apply participatory approaches that actively engage learners, promote health literacy, and enhance community capacity for long‑term public health outcomes.
Communication and Social Marketing
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Communications Team to plan, develop, and implement communication and social marketing interventions that inform, influence, and support healthy behaviours related to chronic disease prevention.
  • Tailor messages that align with public health priorities and resonate with diverse audiences across mass media, digital platforms, and community settings.
  • Ensure all communications are culturally relevant, accessible, and grounded in best practices to amplify public health impact and foster informed decision‑making.
Community and Partner Mobilization
  • Engage individuals, communities, and organizations to collaboratively address public health priorities through relationship‑building, trust, and shared action.
  • Support community members and partners in identifying needs, setting priorities, and leading initiatives that are culturally relevant, equitable, and grounded in local knowledge.
  • Mobilize partners across sectors—including health care, education, social services, and non‑profits—through networks, coalitions, and multi‑sector collaborations aimed at achieving shared goals.
  • Leverage community and partner strengths to support and facilitate sustainable, coordinated public health responses that address social determinants of health and promote long‑term population well‑being.
Healthy Public Policy
  • Support the development, analysis, and promotion of policies that integrate health and equity considerations across sectors to improve population health and reduce health inequities.
  • Provide evidence-informed input on the health impacts of existing and proposed policies at the local and regional level.
